About me

I am an economist working on intergenerational mobility, family economics, and the economics of education. I use large-scale administrative data from the Netherlands and Australia, combined with novel quasi-experimental designs and machine learning approaches, to study how family background and public policy shape children’s opportunities.

I obtained my PhD in Economics from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in April 2026, under the supervision of Nadine Ketel and Maarten Lindeboom. Two solo-authored chapters of my dissertation received wide national media attention in the Netherlands, including coverage in NRC, de Volkskrant, Het Financieele Dagblad, De Telegraaf, NPO Radio 1, and NOS Stories. My study of performance-based dismissal policies in Dutch higher education led to questions in the Dutch parliament, and a university of applied sciences changed its policy with direct reference to the study. During my PhD, I spent two months as a visiting researcher at the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics.

I am now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Technology Sydney, where I work with Peter Siminski, Nathan Deutscher, Roger Wilkins, and Bhashkar Mazumder on the ARC Discovery Project Inequality and Intergenerational Mobility: Measuring What Matters and Why. I am also a Fellow of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute at the Australian National University.
